THE LOUNGS HIT THE STUDIO

By Chris Amery

The eagerly anticipated debut album from St.Helens band The Loungs is being busily recorded at the Catalyst studio in the town centre.

Having caught the eye of record bosses at venues across the U, these six local lads were determined to come back to their roots to record their debut LP.

Keyboardist Martin Wills explained: "We had a choice of a number of recording studios in Manchester but chose Catalyst because it is the best we've seen."

"Hopefully, the album will be out by the end of the year."

Guitarist Dan CAstrogiovanni added: "And hopefully people will think it's good!"

If the rave reviews they received for their debut single 'I'm Gonna Take Your Girl' are anything to go by, then the album is well worth waiting for.

Signed to underground Manchester label, Akoustik Anarkhy, The Loungs boast four lead singersand have been shortlisted for the Road to V competition - to be aired on Channel 4 next month.

Now The Loungs - pronounced 'lungs' - are hoping to breathe some life into the local music scene with their catchy pop harmonies.

Brought together two and a half years ago by a 'love of the Super Furry Animals', The Loungs will hold a launch party for their debut LP at the Zoo Bar on Westfield Street.

And they have a refreshing outlook on life in a band too - rating the importance of a good tune above the need to stick to the latest fashions. Martin joked: "We're not skinny enough to pull off the tight jeans look so we'll just stick to Burton's best instead!"

The band were assisted by Greg from The Axe Factor in town, who lent them some guitars during recording.

The Loungs will next be in action at the Citadel on Friday June 16. To find out more about The Loungs you can visit their website www.theloungs.co.uk
